Peer Mentoring

CI believes in the transformative power of higher education in the reentry context. This power is never more evident than in the development of students as leaders and mentors.

The CI Mentors program takes students who have at least two semesters of college experience and a GPA of 3.0 or higher and provides them with a 15-week training structured as a college course. Trained CI Mentors are then partnered with up to four CI students beginning their college careers. The Mentors provide one-on-one meetings as well as regular group meetings and on-going support during the next two semesters.

The focus of the contacts is on assessing and facilitating the student's academic progress and preparation for the academic milestones that occur each semester, as well as providing connections as needed to supportive services available through CI and its extensive network of college and community partners.

CI Mentors was designed by senior CI students to provide services and opportunities to both the mentees and the mentors. Watch the video on this page which documents  the design of the program.
