Adolescence isn't easy for anybody. Now imagine how hard it is for a kid who lives in one of the poorest neighborhoods in NYC. And what if the immediate danger they face everyday is from an abusive family member or romantic partner? Add being HIV-positive into the mix, or gay, or pregnant or unsure where your next meal will come from or where you will spend the night. The young people who live in Southeast Queens must deal with challenges on a daily basis that are unfathomable to most of us.
Safe Space is the one place right in their own neighborhood where they know they can go to get help. They know that regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, income or anything else they may face bias from outside, that we provide a safe place that offers acceptance and support for everyone.
